Wishing I Was In Miami…Right Now! January 19, 2008

This is the perfect time to visit Miami. Speaking from personal experience, I can assure you that the weather is wonderful this time of year–no snow or sleet to be found! I love Miami, because it’s such a culture mecca. I learned my first Spanish from Cubans in that area, and it is practically unmatched when it comes to things to do, regardless of what you like to do! Well, except for snow skiing. There’s no skiing. You knew this.

If I’m not staying with a friend or in a hostel, the first thing I do before I go someplace is to check for
cheap hotels. You can do this by going to hotelsbycity.net and checking out what they have to offer. Of course they have the usual price check, but what’s really good about this site is that they have listings for cities all over the world! There are so many resources here.

While I was checking out Miami, being a blogging fool, the first thing I clicked on was one of the
blog posts. It told me where the best people watching place was in Miami Beach. I love to people watch, and believe me, it is way more fun in Miami Beach than in Nowhere, Texas. I’m just sayin’. I also learned that they host the International Mango Festival. Sweet.

The whole Miami page is a vicarious treat. The map showing all of that water makes me want to catch a quick flight and go and jump in. Especially since it is not snowing, by the way, it is now sleeting. Ick. I’ll just think sun.

Miami is a great place to visit but you couldn’t pay me to live there. I moved (to Texas ironically) to get out of South Florida. It does have a lot of culture, but you don’t get to enjoy it as much as you want when you have a job and family. And after your car is stolen and your son’s school is closed a couple of time for gang incidents, the lustre wears off. So enjoy it as a tourist but don’t envy it too much. :)
